Common Sports Injuries We Treat

With the growing popularity of sports and physical activities, injuries related to overuse, sudden impacts and repetitive strain have become increasingly common. Different sports place unique demands on the body, affecting various muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and bones. Below are some of the sports injuries we frequently assess and treat.

Common Sports Injuries We Treat

Running Injuries

Running places repetitive stress on the muscles, tendons and joints of the lower limbs, particularly during long-distance training. These demands can contribute to overuse injuries and pain that affect performance and recovery.

Pickleball and Racquet Sports Injuries

Pickleball, tennis, badminton and squash involve repeated swinging, pivoting and rapid changes in direction. These movements can place significant strain on the joints, muscles and connective tissues throughout the body.

HYROX and Functional Fitness Injuries

HYROX and functional fitness training combine endurance exercise with high-intensity strength movements. The repetitive loading and explosive actions can increase stress on the muscles, tendons and joints.

Contact Sports Injuries

Contact and high-impact sports such as rugby and basketball expose athletes to collisions, falls and twisting movements. These forces can place considerable stress on the bones, joints, ligaments and surrounding soft tissues.

Although sports injuries vary widely in their causes and severity, appropriate assessment can help identify the underlying cause, guide treatment and support your return to training, sport and daily life.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is it time to consult an orthopaedic doctor?

If you are experiencing ongoing joint or muscle pain, difficulty walking, swelling or loss of mobility that affects your work, exercise or daily routine, it is advisable to see a specialist. Early consultation can prevent complications and promote a smoother recovery.

Can I continue exercising if my pain is manageable?

Pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong. Pushing through it during sports or exercise can make an injury worse. Always get a proper diagnosis before you get back to physical activity.

Are imaging tests like X-rays or MRIs always necessary?

Not always. However, they can be recommended to confirm a diagnosis, especially for bone or soft tissue injuries. We offer diagnostic imaging services at our clinic if needed.

Do all orthopaedic conditions require surgery?

No. Most orthopaedic issues can be managed non-surgically with physiotherapy, medications, rest, activity modification or orthotic support. Surgery is usually considered only when conservative treatments are ineffective or if the condition is severe.

Do I need to change my diet after surgery?

While there are no universal dietary restrictions, maintaining a balanced diet rich in protein, vitamins C and D, and adequate fluids can support healing. Patients with specific medical conditions, such as diabetes, may receive tailored dietary advice to optimise recovery.
